The Russian Northern Fleet has just completed a simulated defense of Russia's Arctic islands, reports Interfax-AVN.
The training included rocket, anti-aircraft and artillery fire exercises, said a fleet spokesman on Thursday.
This was also the first exercise to involve units of the fleet's Arctic motorized rifle brigade, he said.
The troops were transported to Kotelny Island by Northern Fleet ships for anti-amphibious landing and coastal defense drills, the spokesman said.
