No More C-17s Needed, Say Defense Officials

The Defense Dept. has stressed to lawmakers that the military does not need any more C-17 strategic cargo aircraft, reports the American Forces Press Service.
Additional funding to buy more C-17s in the next budget would force some aircraft into premature retirement, senior defense officials said at a Senate subcommittee hearing.
The current strategic airlift fleet of 223 C-17s and 111 C-5s is more than sufficient for the foreseeable future, said the defense officials.
