Nimitz Carrier To Be Modernized In Bremerton, Wash.

The USS Nimitz has left San Diego and is en route to Naval Base Kitsap, Wash., for a year-long docking period, reports the Navy NewsStand.

During this docking-planned incremental availability (DPIA) at the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and Intermediate Maintenance Facility, the carrier will receive major upgrades to her potable water system, combat and self-defense systems, navigation systems, electrical load centers and other components, Navy officials said.
