New UAV Sensor Designed To Identify Pirate Craft

The Office of Naval Research (ONR) will soon start airborne testing of a new sensor designed to distinguish small pirate boats from other vessels.

The Multi-Mode Sensor Seeker (MMSS) combines high-definition cameras, mid-wave infrared sensors and laser-radar (LADAR) technology. The seeker will be mounted on Fire Scout unmanned helicopters, according to an ONR release.
