The U.S. Army is going back to the fundamentals after its long counter-insurgency wars, reports the Army Times.
Part of the effort involves the use of Decisive Action Training Environments (DATEs) at its combat training centers.
The DATE program is designed for units without a specific upcoming deployment.
Officials say it replicates full-spectrum operations that could involve guerrilla, insurgent, criminal and conventional forces in one environment.
