The Pakistani government may find a new role for the outgoing army chief, who has helped strengthen relations with the United States, reports the Financial Times.
The creation of the new position would give Gen. Ashfaq Kayani oversight of the air force and navy, in addition to ground forces, according to unnamed senior officials.
His current term expires in November.
