Syrian President Bashar Assad has appointed a new prime minister, reports the Voice of America News.
Riad Farid Hijab, the agriculture minister from the outgoing Cabinet, will form a new government as part of what Assad has called a political reform process.
A parliamentary election took place in May.
Opposition activists noted that the rebel groups boycotted the election.
