A new Italian navy command center is ready to use and will be offered to the European Union for controlling naval operations, Defense News reports.
The land-based center, established at the navy's fleet command center at Santa Rosa, north of Rome, is expected to be fully operational next year.
The center could be used to coordinate E.U. missions similar to Operation Atalanta, which is combating piracy off the coast of Somalia, said Italian officials.
