New Motorized Infantry Battalion Is Part Of Modernization Push

The Singapore army has officially activated its first motorized infantry battalion, reports the Singapore Ministry of Defense.
Tuesday's ceremony was preceded by an urban operations exercise by the unit at the Murai Urban Training Facility.
The 2nd Battalion, Singapore Infantry Regiment (2 SIR), is the first such unit in the armed forces.
The modernization is part of an effort to transform the military into a so-called third-generation force.
