Mitsui E & S Shipbuilding in Okayama, Japan, has launched the first frigate in a new class for the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force, reports Defence Blog.
On Thursday, the Kumano (FFM-2) was put into the water at shipbuilder's Okayama shipyard, reported Naval News.
The Kumani is the second frigate in the class. The lead ship is still under construction at the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries (MHI) shipyard in Nagasaki. Mitsui is a subcontractor for the program.
