The Japanese Defense Ministry says it will soon begin recruiting female fighter pilots for the first time, reports the Jiji Press (Japan).
The program is expected to be finalized by the end of the week, according to ministry officials on Wednesday.
Successful candidates are expected to become fighter pilots after three years of training.
The female pilots may fly F-15 and F-4 fighters, according to the ministry.
