Russian media has revealed new details of the Poseidon underwater nuclear-powered drone, reports the Defence Blog.
The Poseidon has a reported maximum speed of 124 mph (200 km/h) and maximum operating depth of more than 3,280 feet (1,000 m), according to Russia’s Tass news agency.
The drone is reportedly capable of achieving such high speeds due to supercavitation. A gas bubble envelops the torpedo at maximum speed, minimizing water contact and significantly reducing drag.
