New Defense Minister Named

Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa has named a new defense minister as part of a Cabinet shift, reports the Dow Jones Newswires.
Miguel Carvajal will replace Javier Ponce as defense minister. Ponce will now head the Agriculture Ministry, officials said on Wednesday.
Carvajal currently serves as deputy minister of agriculture.
Ponce had held the defense portfolio since April 2008.
