New Deepwater Sub Faces Testing

The Admiralteyskie Verfi shipyard in St. Petersburg has begun testing a new submersible for military operations in the Baltic Sea, reports Interfax-AVN.
The Konsul (Project 16811) will also be tested in the Atlantic Ocean, near the Azores, once initial trials are completed, according to a shipyard release.
The 25-ton two-man sub, which can operate at depths of up to 20,000 ft (6,000 m), has a titanium alloy and fiberglass hull fitted with mechanical manipulators.
