The South Korean military has created a new command to protect five of its islands near the Yellow Sea border with North Korea, reports the Yonhap News Agency (Seoul).
The new Northwest Islands Defense Command is a division-sized structure that will be commanded by marine Lt. Gen. Yoo Nak-jun, who will also be in charge of the marines' 6th Brigade and Yeonpyeong Unit, said officials with the Joint Chiefs of Staff.
