The Canadian government has decided to build a new coast guard base in St. John's, Newfoundland, reports the Canadian Press.
The new base will serve as a regional headquarters for the Atlantic region, officials said.
The building is expected to be completed in 2018, according to Rob Moore, the federal regional minister.
