The South Korean military has just activated a new standby unit for international peacekeeping operations, reports the Korea Times.
The 1,000-strong Onnuri unit is expected to have the capability of deploying to crisis regions within a month of receiving approval from the parliament, said military officials.
The peacekeepers will consist of engineering, transport and medical personnel and deploy in rotation or to augment ongoing missions.
