U.S. covert intelligence operations are said to be spreading in Africa.
The U.S. military has been establishing small air bases to conduct surveillance on terrorist hideouts across the continent, reports the Washington Post, according to documents and people familiar with the operations.
About a dozen air bases have been established in Africa since 2007, most in secluded hangars or isolated airstrips, according to a former senior U.S. commander.
