Netanyahu Publicly Asks Obama For Spy's Release

Israel's prime minister has formally asked the president of the United States to release an American convicted of spying for Israel in 1987, the Washington Post reports.

Jonathan Jay Pollard, a Navy civilian intelligence analyst, was arrested in 1985 for passing thousands of classified documents to Israel.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu sent a letter Tuesday to President Obama calling for clemency. The public request follows many similar quiet appeals.
