N.C. State Engineer Develops Metal Foam Able To Shatter Bullets

An engineer at North Carolina State University has developed a composite metal foam that can absorb multiple bullet strikes, reports the Army Times.
Afsaneh Rabiei created a new material that combines metal foam, or metal with gas-filled pores, with a metal matrix composite to improve performance against ballistics.
"It works like a heavy-duty bubble wrap," Rabiei told the newspaper. "The bubbles inside can squeeze down and provide protection."
