The U.S. Navy has just reopened its survival, evasion, resistance and escape (SERE) school at Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, Maine, reports the Portsmouth (N.H.) Herald.
The school provides both classroom and field training for Navy air crew and Marines who are deemed to be at high risk of capture. Training includes how to identify edible plants, read a compass and remain mentally alert during captivity.
