Navy Orders Pair Of Stealthy Corvettes

The United Arab Emirates is buying two stealth corvettes from Italian shipbuilder Fincantieri, reports the company.

The U.A.E. navy contract also includes an option for two additional vessels and technology transfer to an Emirati shipyard.

Two of the Falaj 2-class ships will be built in Italy and delivered to the U.A.E. in late 2012.

The 180-foot (55-m) vessels are intended for a range of missions, including patrol, surveillance, and air and surface warfare.
