The U.S. Navy has announced that it will name the second aircraft carrier in the Gerald R. Ford class after former President John F. Kennedy, reports the Dept. of Defense.
The selection of John F. Kennedy (CVN-79) honors the 35th president and pays tribute to his service in the Navy and government, according to a department release.
The Navy retired the previous John F. Kennedy (CV-67) aircraft carrier in August 2007.
