The U.S. Navy has announced the name of the newest Lewis and Clark-class dry cargo and ammunition ship, reports the Dept. of Defense.
The vessel will be named Medgar Evers, after the civil-rights activist who was assassinated in Mississippi in June 1963.
Medgar Evers (T-AKE 13),the 13th ship of the Lewis and Clark class, is being built by General Dynamics NASSCO in San Diego.
