Navy Launches Production Of P-8 Maritime Patrol Aircraft

The U.S Navy has awarded Boeing a major contract to begin low-rate initial production of P-8A Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft, reports the Naval Air Systems Command.
The $1.6 billion award covers six aircraft, spare parts, logistics and training equipment.
The Navy plans to buy 117 of the aircraft to replace its fleet of aging P-3C Orions.
About three-quarters of the work will take place at Boeing's Seattle facilities, with the rest variously around the U.S.
