The Indonesian navy is expanding the role of its base in Pontianak in West Kalimantan on the Indonesian part of the island of Borneo, reports Antara News, Indonesia's national news agency.
The base has been renamed Main Naval Base XII as part of the reform. The change was marked in a ceremony on Friday presided over by Adm. Ade Supandi, the navy chief.
The new status means the base will gradually get more equipment and improvements, the admiral said.
