The U.S. Navy has officially closed the Brunswick Naval Air Station in Maine, reports the Brunswick (Maine) Times Record.
Tuesday's ceremony brings to an end six decades of military operations at the base.
A year ago, there were about 3,000 Navy personnel at the base. But the flying squadrons have been gone for more than a year, leaving about 15 for the final days, noted Bangor's WLBZ.
The naval air station first opened in 1943.
