The Philippine navy is trying to reinforce its claim to a disputed island region by renovating a rusting ship on a reef used to mark the claim.
The intentionally grounded ship is seen as part of Manila's claim to a disputed South China Sea reef, reports Reuters.
The navy has quietly been sending wooden fishing boats and other small vessels to move construction materials to the Sierra Madre in the Second Thomas Shoal since late last year, said navy officers.
