Navy Faces Major Submarine Gap, Says Think-Tank Report

The delay in procuring new submarines could leave the Australian navy without a sub capability for nearly a decade, reports the Australian, citing the findings of a new study.
The report from the Australian Strategic Policy Institute condemns the lack of progress by the government in implementing a pledge in the 2009 defense white paper to build a fleet of new boats to replace the Collins-class submarines.
The institute is a government-funded think tank.
