The U.S. Navy is looking at hyper-velocity projectiles (HVPs) as a cost-effective option to counter cruise missiles and larger unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), reports USNI News.
USS Dewey (DDG-105) test-fired 20 HVPs from its Mk 45 5-inch main gun during the multinational Rim of the Pacific (RIMPAC) exercise last summer, officials told the news service.
