The U.S. Navy has commissioned a new oceanographic research vessel, reports the Navy NewsStand.
The Sally Ride (AGOR-28) joined the navy on Oct. 28 during a ceremony in San Diego.
The ship will focus on studying climate change, fisheries and the behavior of sound underwater, said Rear Adm. Timothy Gallaudet, the Navy's top oceanographer and navigator.
The vessel can accommodate 24 scientists, in addition to 20 crewmembers.
