The U.S. Navy has certified the latest version of the Aegis ballistic missile defense (BMD) system, reports Lockheed Martin, which builds the system.
The cruiser Shiloh, homeported in Yokosuka, Japan, will be the first ship to receive the Aegis BMD 4.0.1 configuration.
The system introduces the Aegis BMD signal processor, which improves target identification capabilities and uses an open architecture to integrate off-the-shelf technology, noted a Lockheed release.
