The U.S. Navy is evacuating thousands of personnel and their families from Florida in preparation for Hurricane Irma, reports CNN.
The Category 5 storm is set to hit Caribbean islands, including Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands, on Wednesday.
More than 5,000 active duty, civilians, contractors and families at Naval Air Station Key West were ordered to evacuate to safe haven within 300 miles of Atlanta, Ga., said Navy officials on Wednesday.
