Navy Argues Budget Cuts Would Hamstring Sealift Recapitalization

A proposal by the Senate Appropriations Committee to eliminate funding to buy used sealift vessels would effectively terminate the program, according to a Navy document obtained by Breaking Defense.
In its version of the fiscal 2022 defense spending bill, the committee cut around $300 million earmarked for the purchase of used sealift vessels by the Maritime Administration (MARAD).
The committee says the money was “early to need.”
