The U.S. Navy has taken delivery of a new littoral combat ship, reports the Omaha World-Herald.
The Omaha, an Independence-class ship, was delivered late Friday in Mobile, Ala., where the ship was built, the Naval Sea Systems Command said on Monday.
There was no formal ceremony, said a spokesman for Austal USA, the manufacturer. That is scheduled to take place in January in the ship’s future homeport of San Diego, Calif., said the commander of the ship.
