A planned naval exercise with Russia will boost China's military relations with Moscow, says a Chinese official cited by UPI.
The joint maritime drill was scheduled to begin Sunday near China's eastern coastal city Qingdao.
The exercise is intended to strengthen regional compatibility, said Chen Bingde, chief of the general staff of China's People's Liberation Army.
The drills are being carried out under the aegis of the multinational Shanghai Cooperation Organization.
