Two days of NATO aviation drills are being held this week at Latvia's Adazi training area outside Riga, Russia's RIA Novosti reports.
The drills involve servicemen who will join the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force in Afghanistan, NATO air force officials said.
NATO has not yet released details of the number of personnel and aircraft involved.
There are currently some 130,000 ISAF troops in Afghanistan, including 160 from Latvia.
