A member of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt has been declared the winner of the presidential elections, reports the New York Times.
Mohammed Morsi, a U.S.-trained engineer and former parliamentarian, is the first Islamist to be elected as head of state in an Arab country. He is the first Egyptian president from outside of the military.
