Militants have been cleared from 80 percent of the Kurram tribal agency, says the Pakistani army's local commander, the Dawn (Pakistan) reports.
Eighteen soldiers and 200 militants have been killed in the ongoing operation, which began in September 2009, an army spokesman said.
Numerous militant hideouts have also reportedly been destroyed in the agency on the Afghan border.
