More U.S. Navy Ships To Carry SM-6 Missiles

The U.S. Navy has authorized more of its ships to be equipped with the SM-6 air and missile defense interceptor, reports Raytheon, the missile manufacturer.

Ships with Aegis Combat Weapon System baselines 5.3 and 3.A.0 series are now permitted to carry the missile.

The new authorization expands the weapon's use from five to more than 35 ships, said a company release on Wednesday.
