The European Union has agreed to increase the powers to its Frontex border agency to combat human-trafficking and other transnational crimes, reports the E.U. Observer.
The accord reached by the E.U. governments, the European Parliament and the European Commission would authorize the agency to buy or lease its own equipment, including helicopters and all-terrain vehicles, in order to decrease its dependence on assets lent by member states.
