The first contingent of Thai soldiers going to the U.N.-African Union peacekeeping mission in the Darfur region of western Sudan will depart within weeks, reports the Bangkok Post.
The initial group from Task Force 980, with 409 troops, is scheduled to fly to Darfur on Nov. 20. The balance of the 812-man force will head to the region in December, officials said.
