The U.N. peacekeeping mission in the Democratic Republic of Congo (MONUSCO) plans to shutter five of its bases in the restive North Kivu province by the end of the month, a mission official told Deutsche Welle recently.
The base closures are a result of a new U.N. Security Council resolution reducing the size of the peacekeeping force from 19,815 to 16,215, said a spokesman for MONUSCO in an interview.
