NATO has begun upgrading the Kucova Air Base in central Albania, reports See News (Bulgaria).
The five-year modernization project was officially launched on Jan. 24 in Berat, about 43 miles (70 km) south of the capital, Tirana, said the Albanian Defense Ministry.
Kucova Air Base will serve as the first NATO support base in the Western Balkans, providing transport, logistic, training and air-policing support, the ministry said last year.
