Modernization Program Dropped, New Helicopters Sought

The Thai army has decided to end a program to upgrade aging U.S. helicopters and is seeking to purchase new Russian aircraft, reports the Bangkok Post.
The army is canceling a US$30 million contract to repair and maintain 15 Bell 212 helicopters in service for more than 20 years.
Gen. Anupong Paojinda, the army commander, has also approved a purchase of three Russian Mi-17 helicopters for about US$28 million.
