Militia Attacked By NPA

Communist rebels clashed Tuesday with troops and members of a government-backed militia in the southern Philippines, reports Xinhua, China's state news agency.
The troops were attacked by the rebel New People's Army (NPA) in the town of Carmen in Surigao del Sur province, said military officials.
One militiaman was killed and an army officer was wounded in the ensuing gun battle, said officials.
The NPA rebels fled when reinforcements arrived, said the officials.
