The Indonesian military is improving the support facilities on the nation's outlying islands, reports Antara News, Indonesia's national news agency.
The present facilities in Riau Islands province, bordering Singapore and Malaysia, have become obsolete, said military officials.
The army in particular is said to need radars in the region to help monitor suspicious activities.
According to local military officials, the support facilities will be enhanced as resources allow.
