The Russian air force is equipping transport planes with special gear to battle forest fires, reports Interfax-AVN.
The initial airborne water-dropping systems have been delivered to bases in Taganrog, Orenburg and Pskov. Another three bases are slated to receive the systems over the next month, with six more to be delivered by November, said a Defense Ministry spokesman last week.
The air force says it has trained 20 crews in firefighting operations.
