Ethiopia appears to have acquired Chinese vehicle-launched bridges, reports Defence Web (South Africa).
Images posted on Twitter in December showed at least three vehicle-mounted bridges on a road in Ethiopia.
The systems appeared to be Norinco GQL-111 scissor bridges mounted on an 8 x 8 chassis.
The GQL-111 is said to be similar to the Russian TMM-6 heavy bridge system. A single section can span a gap of about 50 feet (15 m), while a complete set of five can span 250 feet (75 m).
