The Egyptian Justice Ministry on Wednesday extended broad powers to the military for making arrests for numerous offenses, the BBC reports.
The decades-old emergency laws were lifted on May 31 in Egypt, denying troops the right to arrest civilians.
What amounts to martial law will remain in effect at least until the new constitution is written, said officials.
